Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens sinh năm 1812 tại Portsmouth, Anh quốc. Ngay từ khi còn nhỏ ông đã phải làm việc vất vả để giúp gia đình. Cuộc sống khổ cực trong nhà máy và những khu phố nghèo đã giúp ông hình thành tư tưởng cho nhiều tác phẩm nổi tiếng về sau.

Được xem là tiểu thuyết gia người Anh nổi tiếng nhất thời nữ hoàng Victoria, sự nghiệp văn chương của Dickens đầy ắp các tác phẩm, các bài báo và rất nhiều buổi diễn thuyết thành công, trong đó tiêu biểu là Oliver Twist (tiểu thuyết, 1837-1839); Nicholas Nickleby (tiểu thuyết, 1838-1839); Bài ca lễ Giáng sinh (truyện vừa, 1843); David Copperfield (tiểu thuyết, 1849-1850); Kỳ vọng vĩ đại (tiểu thuyết, 1860-1861)... Nhiều cuốn sách của ông đã được chuyển thể thành phim, kịch, nhạc kịch, hoạt hình... và đến nay các phiên bản mới vẫn tiếp tục ra đời.

Dickens mất năm 1870 tại hạt Kent, Anh quốc.
